An Accessible Journey Through Contemporary Art: Museums, Workshops and Local Communities
Officine CAOS Le Vallette District, Turin
Metropolitan Art 11 enters the heart of its autumn programme with a journey that, from September to November, will guide citizens, young artists and local communities in the discovery of contemporary art through guided tours, workshops, performances and participatory activities.
For eleven editions, the project has made accessible what often appears distant: the languages, practices and places of contemporary art, transforming them into shared, free and inclusive experiences open to everyone.
Led by Stalker Teatro, in collaboration with nationally active performing arts companies, Metropolitan Art 11 confirms its multidisciplinary vocation: a bridge between performing arts and visual arts that connects museums, schools, cultural centres, residential facilities and public spaces. Through a widespread laboratory of creativity, education and participation, the project links the Le Vallette district with the wider city of Turin.
Guided Tours: Contemporary Art as an Accessible Experience
September marks the beginning of a series of free guided tours to the project’s partner museums: PAV, Parco Arte Vivente, Fondazione Merz and Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, three of Italy’s leading institutions dedicated to contemporary artistic research.
Guided by experts, participants will engage with artworks, installations and exhibitions that will serve as creative inspiration for the workshops that follow. These completely free tours transform museum visits into an active and inclusive experience, offering people of all ages the opportunity to encounter contemporary art in a direct, guided and participatory way.
The programme also includes a special event dedicated to discovering the historic buildings of the Le Vallette district, organised in collaboration with the Historical Documentation Centre of District 5. This will provide an opportunity to explore the area through its cultural and urban heritage.
Workshops:
From Artistic Practice to Collective Creation
Alongside the guided tours, a series of free workshops will begin in September, leading to the creation of Reaction, a new participatory production developed with citizens and young artists together with the Stalker Teatro ensemble.
Reaction Workshops – Young Artists
A training programme that enables participants to follow every stage of the creation of a socially engaged art theatre production, developing performative materials inspired by the experiences and ideas gathered during the museum visits.
Reaction Workshops – Community Participants
A workshop open to people of different ages and cultural backgrounds, offering participants the opportunity to contribute to the creation of scenes for the new production, transforming artistic experience into a process of community building.
Both programmes are free of charge and represent the participatory core of the project: a concrete way of making contemporary art a shared, accessible and creative experience.
Towards a New Participatory Production: Reaction
The activities taking place throughout September and October, including tours, workshops and meetings, will converge in the creation of Reaction, Stalker Teatro’s new multidisciplinary production directed by Gabriele Boccaccini, developed with the participation of numerous citizens and young artists.
The dress rehearsals and public performances, scheduled for November at Officine CAOS, will culminate in a major event composed of performative tableaux born from the dialogue between local communities, museums, territory and contemporary artistic practices.
