There are stories that are born already fractured, creations that build themselves while they fall apart, attempts that reveal more than any finished form could contain. Abel lives precisely in this fragile territory: a work too ambitious to find a solution, a narrative densely woven with sensations that suddenly splits open into a bottomless void. As if the desire to grasp the fullness of life were instead exposing the emptiness beneath it. It is the making of of a performance that never quite manages to exist, a theatre that shows and hides at the same time, where what we see is never the real story. The characters argue, stumble, begin again: they search for a truce in a piece that seems impossible to resolve.
The 38th edition of Officine CAOS’ Differenti Sensazioni season continues by hosting one of the most original emerging companies in the European contemporary circus scene. Cie del Caravaggio, a Franco Italian collective supported by major contemporary circus centres such as Ésacto’Lido, La Grainerie, FLIC Scuola di Circo and Imaginarius, works at the crossroads of theatre, circus and physical dramaturgy. Their creations explore failure as a poetic engine, emotional tension as language, fragility as a form of resistance. Programmed in residencies and professional contexts across France, Italy and Portugal, they are establishing themselves as one of the most compelling voices in narrative circus today.

Abel is a work that tries to exist while it crumbles. A story that advances through accumulation, detours, attempts, until a sudden fissure reveals its abyss. The performers build and dismantle the scene, searching for a meaning that constantly slips away, confronting a narrative material that refuses to obey. It is a theatre piece that speaks of the desire to create and the impossibility of doing so, of the vertigo that emerges when what should be full reveals itself instead as fragile, unstable, perforated. A meta‑theatrical game that exposes the vulnerability of the creative process and the beauty sometimes cruel of never reaching a conclusion.
Critics have described the company’s work as “sharp, ironic, capable of transforming failure into a scenic gesture,” highlighting their ability to hold tension, humour and vertigo within the same frame. Abel confirms this signature: a theatre that does not explain, but exposes; that does not reassure, but opens cracks; that does not seek perfection, but the unstable truth of the attempt.
