Officine CAOS – Le Vallette District, Turin Part of the “Turin, What a Beautiful Summer!” programme of the City of Turin
The festival The Courage to Be Happy continues its summer journey through the Le Vallette district, transforming Officine CAOS and the surrounding spaces into places of encounter, listening and participation. This week the programme includes an event with a strong social dimension: the final evening of “Will You Promise Me a Dance?”, the outcome of a workshop that brought together residents and performers in a shared process of approaching one another through dance.
Led by a collective active on the international scene, the project brings back to the centre one of the most ancient and intimate rituals of our culture: the couple’s dance. A tradition that here is renewed in a contemporary form, turning the dance floor into an open, shared space where dance becomes a simple and powerful gesture of relation.
As always, the festival weaves together workshops, outdoor activities and community moments, keeping the care of places and people at its core. Friday evening remains the beating heart of the programme: the moment when the neighbourhood gathers and lets itself be moved by the power of live art.

An open air dance hall, a dance floor built together, a slow dance that becomes an opportunity for encounter. Will You Promise Me a Dance? is a community based celebration performance, born from the workshop held in the previous days and led by Erika Di Crescenzo, Simona Ceccobelli and Amalia Franco, with the musical contribution of Riccardo Ruggeri.
The project brings back to the centre one of the most ancient and intimate rituals of our culture: the couple’s dance. A simple, almost everyday gesture that here becomes a device for relation, closeness and mutual recognition. The tradition of the balera is reinterpreted in a contemporary key, turning the dance floor into an ephemeral landscape of listening, play and wonder.
Critics have highlighted the poetic and social strength of the work: “a slow dance that becomes a way of truly seeing one another, allowing dance to open a space of trust between strangers.” An intimate and collective dimension at the same time, inviting us to rediscover physical closeness as a possibility for encounter.
