SOGNO” is freely inspired by A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Shakespeare’s first comic masterpiece. On a summer night, reality dissolves into a play of mirrors: between enchanted woods and anarchic desires, the boundaries between truth and imagination are overturned. The misunderstandings of four lovers and the whims of fairies reveal how falling in love can rewrite the world. The dream ceases to be an escape and becomes a tool of knowledge, a vertigo that transforms perception into creation. Characters move within an atmosphere of folklore and superstition, in the heat of summer and the madness of uninhibited natural impulses. Theseus and Hippolyta, the four lovers fleeing Athens, Oberon and Titania with their amorous struggles, Puck pulling the strings of fate, and the group of amateur actors with Bottom—whose donkey’s head shares a visionary love with the Fairy Queen—all contribute to turning the dream into vision. The performance revolves around two central questions: Can we shift the meaning of “dream” towards that of “vision”? Is it love and dreaming that transform reality?
The production is a co-production with Festival Abano Danza, Fondazione Entroterre, and Mirabilia Festival, in collaboration with Narni Città Teatro, with residencies at Supercinema and Teatro Il Rivellino in Tuscania, and Teatro Luciano Bonaparte in Canino. The project is supported by the MiC – Ministry of Culture, Regione Lazio, Roma Capitale, Municipality of Viterbo, Municipality of Tuscania, Municipality of Canino, and Fondazione Carivit.
