An exhibition that brings to light a founding chapter of Stalker Teatro

La Zona is the new exhibition by Gabriele Boccacini, Artistic Director of Stalker Teatro, presenting a selection of polaroids, paintings and art objects connected to one of the most significant moments in the company’s history: the project Stalker – I Sognatori della Realtà (1982–1985), developed inside the former Psychiatric Hospital of Collegno.

The title of the exhibition refers to the fifth scene of the environmental, site specific performance Stalker, I Sognatori della Realtà, created in the 1980s within the former asylum, where the company founded its own Centre for Theatrical Experimentation and Training, named precisely Zona. A physical and symbolic place that shaped the artistic identity of the group and that now comes back to life through visual materials and archival objects.

A visual heritage recovered and re elaborated

The project Stalker – I Sognatori della Realtà, inspired by Andrei Tarkovsky’s film Stalker, culminated in the creation of an itinerant performance articulated into nine scenic environments, presented in its completed form at the municipal greenhouses of Grugliasco. On that occasion, artist Angelo Garoglio produced a full photographic documentation, part of which was later damaged by flooding and has now been recovered and reworked for this exhibition.

The images portray the performers of Stalker Teatro’s historical core group: Paolo Fauciglietti, Raffaella Marsella, Elisabetta Ricagni, Adriana Rinaldi, Anna Rinaldi, Eldo Taricco. A precious body of material that testifies to the pioneering force of an artistic experience capable of intertwining theatre, visual arts and social engagement.

A dialogue between memory and the present

The exhibition offers a path that combines historical documentation and new artistic elaborations, restoring the complexity of a project that marked the birth of Stalker Teatro and continues to influence its research. Polaroids, paintings and objects become tools to question memory, reactivate places and visions, and bring back to the centre the relationship between art, community and the transformation of shared spaces.
